For a child with a disability, the difference between staying home and walking into a classroom can be as simple — and as decisive — as a school bag, a uniform, and a pair of shoes.
In July 2026, Cheza Foundation purchased a full set of essential school supplies and basic needs for a child with special needs in our community. The goal was straightforward: remove the practical barriers keeping this child out of school, so that education could begin with dignity rather than embarrassment.
In Tanzania, families raising a child with a disability often carry added costs — therapy, transport, and adapted equipment — while facing the same everyday school requirements as everyone else. When money is tight, it is frequently the child with a disability who is left behind. A missing uniform or worn-out shoes becomes a reason to stay home, and each missed term widens the gap.
By providing these supplies, we did more than hand over goods. We told a child, and a family, that they belong in the classroom and that their future is worth investing in. Small, targeted support like this is one of the most effective ways to keep vulnerable children learning alongside their peers.
This is the heart of our approach: meet the immediate need, protect the child's dignity, and open the door to long-term inclusion. Every bag packed and every pair of shoes given is a step toward a Tanzania where disability is never a reason to be excluded from education.
