Two very different schools, one shared court — and a boccia match that was really a celebration of inclusion.

Under the CHEZANASI Campaign, students from Uhuru Mchanganyiko School and the International School of Tanganyika (IST) came together for an exciting indoor boccia match. Boccia — a precision ball sport built to be inclusive — put players of all abilities on an equal footing.

The friendly game was far more than a competition. It was a celebration of teamwork, connection, and shared joy, as students of different backgrounds and abilities played, cheered, and encouraged one another.

Boccia is a Paralympic sport in which players roll or throw balls to land as close as possible to a target ball. Because it can be adapted for almost any level of physical ability, it is one of the most genuinely inclusive games there is — a sport where a child with high support needs and a mainstream student can compete as equals.

Moments like these are exactly what CHEZANASI is about: bringing young people together through sport so that inclusion is not taught, but lived. It was inspiring to watch unity take shape, one throw at a time.

Partnerships like the one with IST also widen the circle of understanding. Students who might never otherwise meet discover how much they share, and carry that lesson back to their own schools and families — turning a single friendly match into ripples of inclusion across the city.
